Here are a few simple things to help you try to dry your shoes out carefully and help protect them from being damaged beyond repair:-
1. Remove excess water from around the outside of the shoe using a clean dry towel.
2. Use newspaper to pack the inside of the shoe in order to draw out the moisture in it. Replace with clean paper every few hours until the moisture has all gone. This can take a few hours or a few days depending on how wet the shoes are Be careful not to over pack as this can distort the leather and cause a completely different problem!
3. Let the shoes dry slowly at room temperature. DO NOT put them next to the fire or radiator. This will make the moisture leave too quickly and increase the chances of the leather cracking. Once leather is cracked this cannot be repaired as it is a natural material.
4. Once dry, use a little leather balm to help regain the leathers lustre and finally polish as normal.
Your shoes will need a little extra care and attention over the next few times you wear them, so make sure that you clean and polish after every wear.
